Newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has revealed the shocking reason behind her rejection by South Africans, which thwarted her ambition to become Miss South Africa. In an interview with Silverbird TV, Adetshina disclosed that her Igbo name was the basis for the rejection, leading to her withdrawal from the pageant.
Adetshina recounted her harrowing experience, stating, "It all started because of my name. People were not happy that my name is Chidimma and I am representing South Africa." She emphasized her pride in her Nigerian heritage, saying, "I am proudly Nigerian."
Despite being born in South Africa, Adetshina faced discrimination and felt unwelcome due to her name. She described the experience as "horrible and heartbreaking," adding, "I have lived there for 23 years and it's heartbreaking to see that I wasn't welcomed and accepted." Adetshina's courage in sharing her story sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals with diverse backgrounds.
