A coalition of youths in Plateau State presented their charter of demands to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Saturday in Jos, seeking action from both the state and federal governments.
The presentation followed a series of protests in Jos, which were initially peaceful but later hijacked by hoodlums, leading to looting and destruction of property.
Mr. Sam Ode, representative of the youths, outlined their demands, including a reduction in the cost of governance, explanation of palliative expenditures, implementation of the minimum wage, and reduction of tertiary institution fees at the state level.
At the federal level, they called for an end to corruption, reversal of fuel price hikes, reduction of electricity tariffs, cost-cutting measures, reopening of national borders, and judicial reforms.
Ode emphasized that these demands reflect the will of the people, seeking sustainable development and not rebelling against the government. Governor Mutfwang thanked the protesters for their peaceful conduct and promised to transmit their demands to President Bola Tinubu.
He also pledged to engage youths in his government, ensure transparency in palliative distribution, and focus on boosting key sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and education to improve the local economy. Mutfwang assured the youths that he would provide quality leadership and requested their patience and support.
