In a strategic move to ensure a hitch-free local government election in Osun State, the Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has formally inaugurated a team of Electoral Officers and Assistant Electoral Officers.
Chairman of OSSIEC, Hashim Abioye, underscored the imperative of this initiative, emphasizing its pivotal role in achieving the commission's electoral objectives. He reiterated OSSIEC's unwavering commitment to delivering an election that epitomizes transparency, credibility, and acceptability.
Abioye exhorted the newly inaugurated officers to maintain an unyielding focus on their duties, stressing their accountability to the commission. He reminded them of their fiduciary duty to serve the state with unimpeachable integrity throughout the electoral process, urging them to seek clarifications from OSSIEC on any ambiguities.
Regarding local government autonomy, Abioye clarified that the state electoral body remains the sole entity empowered by the constitution to conduct local government elections. He assured that OSSIEC would rigorously adhere to established protocols, ensuring an electoral process that yields a credible outcome and effective governance at the grassroots level.
"We are steadfast in our resolve to conduct an election that sets a new benchmark for excellence, an election that will be impervious to criticism," Abioye asserted.
