The Edo State House of Assembly has passed a revised supplementary budget of N5 billion, aimed at addressing economic realities and alleviating citizens' suffering. Speaker Blessing Abaku presented the bill to Governor Basi for executive assent, stating it's a parliamentary tradition to appropriate for unforeseen areas at year's end.
Governor Basi remarked, "The review of existing budgetary provisions was necessitated by present economic realities, aiming to address issues that arose during the #EndSARS protest." The revised budget allocates N1 billion monthly to support small and medium enterprises, market women associations, and other groups.
Notably, the Governor expressed confidence in achieving a 95% performance rate on the budget, citing a near 100% performance at the half-year mark. The supplementary provision prioritizes capital projects, addressing deficits and inflationary pressures.
This development follows an executive request to accommodate budget deficits, complete ongoing projects, and mitigate inflation's impact. The signing of the supplementary bill demonstrates the government's commitment to adaptive governance and citizen welfare.
