French President Emmanuel Macron announced the dissolution of the National Assembly on Sunday evening following the defeat of his party in the 2024 European Parliament elections, as reported by BFMTV.
In a brief address, Macron stated, "I have decided to give you back the choice of your parliamentary future through the vote. I am therefore dissolving the National Assembly this evening." He emphasised the gravity of this decision, adding, "This is a serious, weighty decision. But it is above all an act of trust."
Macron's Renaissance party secured 15.2 percent of the votes in the recent elections, significantly trailing behind the far-right National Rally, which garnered 31.8 percent.
