The unfolding drama between Ezelekhae Ewuare, the crown prince of Benin, and Cynthia Morgan, a once-renowned dancehall artist, has taken a new turn. The prince has reportedly facilitated the arrest of the singer on charges of cyberstalking and harassment. A video capturing the arrest event made its way to the internet on Monday.
Ezelekhae Ewuare is the direct descendant and successor to the throne of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II. Cynthia Morgan, on the other hand, was a celebrated dancehall artist, with chart-topping hits like “Don’t Break My Heart” and “Lead Me On,” which were widely received and critically acclaimed.
In August 2013, Cynthia signed a deal with Northside Entertainment Inc., a company owned by Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye, the older sibling of the now-defunct PSquare. However, her career took a downturn, and she allegedly began to harass and cyberstalk the prince. She has been accused of consistently posting falsehoods about him on her Instagram story since 2020, even claiming that he frequents her dreams.
The arrest came in the wake of a petition submitted by Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwam, the prince's legal representative from Ekikhalo Chambers, to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye. The lawyer requested that the commissioner warn the 32-year-old singer against further contact with the prince and cease her cyberstalking and harassment activities.
According to the prince's counsel, Cynthia persistently attempted to contact his client through various channels. Despite blocking her attempts, she managed to send him a text on 3 May 2024. The lawsuit states, "Our client informed us that she had made several attempts to contact him through various lines, which he immediately blocked to avoid any contact with her." The text contained incoherent statements, including, "I know true love surpasses all, but you have never shown me this true love in real life? So why are you in my dreams?"
In November 2023, Cynthia made allegations of a romantic relationship with the crown prince. She accused him of using witchcraft to spiritually oppress her. She detailed instances of physical altercations, alleged slaps, and claimed he cast spells to prevent her from marrying another man. In an Instagram story, she wrote, "Gosh, humans are wicked. I have learnt never to be too private or protect a bad person, thinking they will change. Now, you are going to make me grant a proper interview."
In response to the singer's Instagram tirade, the crown prince has threatened to take legal action.
