In a significant operation on Thursday, troops from the Nigerian Army successfully cleared and dismantled what was alleged to be the Supreme Headquarters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The Army Headquarters made this announcement in a post on its official social media handle, sharing still and motion pictures from the operation. According to the post, the headquarters, which was considered the last stronghold of IPOB and ESN, is located in the Mother Valley, spanning across Orsu and Ihiala Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Imo and Anambra States, respectively.
The post further revealed that the headquarters was situated about 5,000 feet below sea level. The well-concealed and forested location provided the alleged terrorists with good cover from air surveillance. It also served as their command and control centre and military council headquarters.
