Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu, has made a return to the country following his attendance at the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government.
It is recalled that the president departed Abuja, Nigeria, for Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, on February 14 to participate in the Summit.
Five days after his departure, Tinubu arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 04:00 pm local time on Monday. He was welcomed by a host of top government officials, including his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle.
However, PRIME 9JA ONLINE reports that the president's return comes at a time when the country is experiencing widespread protests due to the economic hardship currently afflicting its citizens. Angry Nigerians had earlier taken to the streets, blocking major roads in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and Otukpo, Benue State. They are calling on the Federal Government to urgently address the economic hardship that is causing them distress.
The president's return to the country amid these protests underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for swift action to alleviate the economic difficulties faced by the populace.
