In a significant development in Edo State politics, Senator Monday Okpebholo has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries.
Okpebholo emerged victorious after polling 12,433 votes, thereby defeating 11 other aspirants who participated in the re-run election. The re-run was initiated after the first contest was declared inconclusive by the leadership of the ruling party.
The senator was one of the three winners that emerged from the shadow poll conducted last Saturday.
The final outcome of the exercise was officially announced in Benin by the new Chairman of the election committee, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State. This followed the collation of results from the 18 Local Government Areas in Edo State.
With this victory, Okpebholo is now set to represent the APC in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State.
