The Congress specifically mentioned that it has reliable information that workers have only received the payment for September, and only a handful have received a second payment.
This warning was delivered by the President of TUC, Festus Osifo, during a press briefing in Abuja. This briefing took place shortly after the Congress' emergency National Executive Council meeting.
Osifo further cautioned all 36 state governments across the country, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to "tighten" their belt in alleviating the hardships faced by workers due to the removal of fuel subsidies. This, he said, is crucial to prevent a new crisis in the country.
"We want the government to tighten their belts, government at all levels – the federal government, the state and local governments because a situation where they are asking Nigerians to keep tightening their belt and they (government officials) are living in affluence is not acceptable," he stated.
More details will follow in due course.
