The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has levelled accusations against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging their involvement in the explosion that occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly on October 29, 2023.
Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the APC's Caretaker Committee in the state, voiced these allegations during the APC Thanksgiving dedication service held at the Port Harcourt Polo Club on Sunday.
Okocha challenged Governor Fubara to demonstrate to the state's populace that neither he nor the PDP had any part in the incident that led to the burning of the esteemed chamber.
Okocha further criticised the governor for his failure to establish an investigative committee to probe the incident, which has since caused a rift in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He questioned the governor's commitment to his proclaimed plan of consolidation and continuity, suggesting that the governor's actions were contributing to the destruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly rather than its development.
Okocha also addressed the structure and leadership of the APC in the state, assuring party members that the APC would no longer function as a "social club" but would be built on a solid foundation. He expressed regret for the party's past mistakes and assured members of their inclusion at all levels.
As the state representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Management Board, Okocha pledged that the new leadership of the APC in the state would work tirelessly to displace the PDP from Rivers State.
Also present at the thanksgiving dedication service was the National Legal Adviser of the APC, Professor Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, who represented the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje.
He conveyed the mandate of the party leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and formally invited the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Martins Amaewhule, the Deputy Speaker, Dumle Maol, and all the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, to join the APC.
He emphasised that the APC is a party for the people and for ordinary Nigerians, and acknowledged the solidarity of the people with the honourable members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in these challenging times.
