In 2013, Obafiaye, who was then serving as the Lagos commandant of the NSCDC, made a guest appearance on Sunrise Daily, a breakfast programme on Channels Television.
When asked to provide the website of the NSCDC, he hesitated and said, “The website is… excuse me… wait… it can only be made known by my Oga at the top.” He further added, “I cannot categorically tell you one now and my Oga at the top would give you another one.”
His 'Oga At The Top' comment quickly went viral, becoming a meme, inspiring dance tunes, skits, and even T-shirt designs. Following the incident, Obafiaye was transferred from the Lagos command of the NSCDC.
Fast forward ten years, and the 'Oga At The Top' is receiving a promotion. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, decorated Obafiaye along with two of his colleagues — Fasiu Adeyinka, former Kwara commandant, and Raji, former Imo commandant — as deputy commandant general. The minister stated, “As the chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), I decorated the three new Deputy Commandants General of the NSCDC.”
As of the time this report was filed, the NSCDC website displayed the message 'This website is under construction'. On December 1, the federal government approved the promotion of 32,361 personnel of all ranks in the parastatals under the Ministry of Interior.
