Despite the serious nature of the charge, Oriyomi entered a plea of not guilty. Following his plea, Justice Rahman Oshodi ordered that he be held in the correctional centre.
The case has been adjourned until February 22, 2024, when the trial is set to commence.
Earlier in the proceedings, the state counsel, Ms Inumidun Solarin, informed the court that the alleged offence took place in August 2022 on Oludele Street, Ikola Odunsi in Ikeja.
Solarin accused Oriyomi of defiling the young survivor (whose name has been withheld) by engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecution stated that the alleged offence is in violation of Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
If convicted, Oriyomi faces the possibility of life imprisonment. (NAN)
