Calabar: NSCDC Apprehends Five Suspects Over Hotel, PoS Robberies

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reported the arrest of five individuals suspected of carrying out robberies at hotels and Point of Sale (PoS) operators in Calabar.

The suspects, who range in age from 15 to 25, were apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday following a tip-off.

Mr Charles Brown, the NSCDC Commandant in Cross River, stated that the suspects were detained at various locations, with evidence such as charms, weapons, ammunition, and other incriminating items found in their possession.

He revealed, “They had recently robbed a hotel in Calabar South where their faces were captured by the CCTV mounted in the hotel. We also traced them to a phone they stole in the hotel. We have been on them for some time and just this morning, we appended one of them who took us to round up the four others."

Despite these arrests, the group’s leader remains at large. However, the commandant assured, “As we speak, their leader is still at large, but we will get him.”

Upon completion of the investigation, the suspects will be handed over to the police for prosecution. Brown emphasized the ongoing collaboration between security agencies to make the state inhospitable for criminals.

He also encouraged the public to provide them with relevant information to help eradicate crimes and criminal activities.
