The incident unfolded amidst a chase involving a Toyota Sienna vehicle and an official from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
According to eyewitness accounts reported by Vanguard, the accident transpired when the LASTMA official pursued the Toyota Sienna due to an alleged traffic rule violation.
The high-speed chase took a devastating turn when the LASTMA official reportedly wrestled with the driver for control of the vehicle's steering wheel while it was still in motion.
As a result of this perilous struggle, the driver lost control of the Toyota Sienna, leading to a violent collision with a tricycle on Bayo Oyewale Street.
The horrifying accident claimed the lives of all passengers on board, including the pregnant woman who was escorting her children to school at the time.
Tragically, the tricycle driver bore the brunt of the impact, with his lifeless body discovered at the accident site, his head suffering severe injuries beyond recognition.
In the aftermath of the accident, an outraged mob descended upon the LASTMA official involved in the chase, prompting concerns of possible vigilante justice. However, the situation was defused by the timely arrival of the police, who managed to save the official from being lynched.
When reached for comment regarding the road crash implicating one of its operatives, LASTMA officials declined to provide immediate details, stating that an official statement regarding the incident would be issued at a later time.
