The charges were filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja on June 26, 2023, and were signed by Ochugwo Ogbeh and Ibrahim Mohammed of the Legal and Prosecution Department of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the charges, Senator Oduah and a certain D.A.O Oshinowo (who is currently at large) conspired in 2017 to commit a felony by creating a document titled 'Re: Request for National Youth Service Confirmation.'
Furthermore, Oduah is accused of submitting her credentials to the federal government in 2011, along with an affidavit and extract from a police diary claiming that she had lost her NYSC certificate. These actions resulted in her appointment as a cabinet minister and her subsequent election as Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District.
The prosecution further alleges that Oduah fraudulently received salaries and allowances as both a Minister and a Senator, while pretending to be qualified. The charges levelled against her contravene sections 3(6) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M17, section 156 of the Penal Code Act (punishable under section 158 of the same Act), and section 1(1)(a) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act, 2006.
