Cute Abiola Faces Prosecution for Disrespecting Police Uniform
The Nigerian Police Force has expressed strong disapproval of the recent skits posted by comedian Abdulgafar Abiola, popularly known as "Cute Abiola," on his social media platforms.

The skits, which were uploaded on the 20th and 24th of July, 2023, portray a disrespectful and derogatory depiction of the police uniform. According to Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force's Public Relations Officer, such acts are criminal and punishable under the law.

While Nigerians have the right to enjoy their fundamental human rights, it is essential to recognise that the law also prohibits any individual from tarnishing the reputation of the police institution or violating the provisions related to the use of police uniforms. The skits in question are in direct violation of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law.

As a result of the contemptuous acts exhibited by "Cute Abiola," the Nigerian Police Force intends to investigate the matter thoroughly. If found guilty, the comedian may face prosecution for his deliberate actions. It is crucial to note that the Force had previously warned skit makers and filmmakers against disrespecting the police uniform or any of its components.

The Police Force emphasises its commitment to upholding the sanctity of the uniform and the dignity of its personnel who wear it while serving the nation. The institution will pursue the necessary legal processes to hold accountable any individual or entity that seeks to bring disrepute to the uniform or the integrity of the police force as a whole.

Furthermore, the public, including media personalities, is urged to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly. Engaging in actions that could erode public trust in esteemed law enforcement institutions should be avoided. By upholding the law and respecting the institutions that serve and protect the nation, all members of society contribute to a stronger and more cohesive society.

As of now, the investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the Nigerian Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to maintain the integrity of its uniform and uphold the dignity of its officers.
