Represented by the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., the governor called for continuous prayers to ensure lasting peace, unity, and progress in the state and the country.
Governor Obaseki acknowledged the contributions of the Muslim community to the successes achieved during his administration. He emphasised the significance of their prayers, stating, "When the enemy of Nigeria wishes the nation down, it’s only by your prayers and the prayers of people like you that the nation is still on its feet." He credited their prayers for the growth, development, and accomplishments of the state, expressing his gratitude and urging them to continue praying for Edo State.
Recognising the challenges faced by Nigerians and the people of Edo State due to the removal of fuel subsidy, Governor Obaseki assured the gathering that his government had implemented various palliative measures to mitigate the hardships.
He acknowledged that his previous comments on the state of the nation and its policies had faced criticism but stated that time had proven him right as someone who speaks truth to power.
The governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to addressing the suffering and challenges faced by Nigerians, especially those in Edo State. He pledged to respond appropriately by implementing policies and programs aimed at alleviating their struggles.
Despite the troubling times, Governor Obaseki expressed his unwavering belief that Nigeria and Edo State would persevere and overcome the challenges.
In response, Alhaji Fatai Enabulele, the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, expressed gratitude to Governor Obaseki for his support to the Muslim community in Edo State and his efforts in creating a peaceful environment for coexistence.
Enabulele praised the governor's transformative reforms across all sectors of the state, highlighting the achievements in sports, such as the recent victory of Bendel Insurance in the Federation Cup (FA) after a 43-year hiatus. He urged the governor to enhance the publicity of his work, ensuring that citizens are aware of the positive changes being made for their benefit.
The celebration of Eid-El-Kabir provided an opportunity for Governor Obaseki to express his appreciation to the Muslim community and reaffirm his commitment to implementing measures that would alleviate the economic challenges faced by the people of Edo State.
The governor's remarks were met with gratitude and commendation from the Chief Imam and the Muslim faithful in attendance.
