Chike Olemgbe elected unopposed as Imo State Assembly Speaker
Chike Olemgbe, a 40-year-old first-time lawmaker, has been elected as the new Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly. The election took place during the inauguration of the 10th State House of Assembly in Owerri, the state capital. Olemgbe, who represents Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area, won the position unopposed.

Prior to his election as Speaker, Olemgbe served as the immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of the Ihitte/Uboma LGA. His nomination for the position of Speaker was moved by Vitalis Azodo, the member-elect for Ideato South, and seconded by Ugochukwu Obodo, a member-elect for Owerri Municipal Council.

Following the motion, the Clerk of the House, Chinelo Emeghara, called for the swearing-in of Olemgbe, as there were no further nominations. He officially assumed the role of Speaker, taking on the responsibility of leading the Imo State House of Assembly.

In addition to Olemgbe's election, Amara Iwuanyanwu, the immediate past deputy speaker of the Assembly, was returned as the new deputy speaker. Like Olemgbe, Iwuanyanwu was unopposed in the election. Shortly after, he was sworn in as the deputy speaker, solidifying his position within the state government.

With the new leadership in place, the Imo State House of Assembly is poised to carry out its legislative functions and contribute to the development and governance of the state. The Speaker and the deputy speaker, along with other members of the Assembly, will work together to address the needs and concerns of the people they represent, ensuring effective lawmaking and oversight.
