“We request a release of the official result of June 12, a declaration of late MKO as the president-elect and presentation of insignia office and necessary compensation to his family,” stated Mr Oladeji. He highlighted the significance of this action, not only for MKO Abiola but for all Nigerians and the world, as it would bring a sense of relief and closure.
The Accord Party chairman stressed that June 12 Day should no longer be a day of mourning injustice and loss, but rather a celebratory occasion like Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Fulfilling the party's request, according to Mr Oladeji, would restore hope in the democratic system of Nigeria and Africa, fostering trust and faith in the government of Tinubu.
Moreover, the chairman emphasised that this act of justice would contribute to the development of the judicial and justice system in Nigeria. By acknowledging the significance of June 12 and recognising MKO Abiola as the president-elect, it would symbolise a mature and progressive democracy in the country.
The party chairman also noted that this call for justice is timely, considering that some of the key individuals involved in the events of June 12 are still alive. The Accord Party looks forward to the official announcement of the result of the June 12, 1993 election and the declaration of the winner.
