Nigerian chef Hilda Baci breaks world record with 100-hour cookathon
Nigerian chef, Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has set a new world record for the longest cooking time by an individual. The chef broke the previous record of 87 hours, 45 minutes held by Chef Lata Tondon by cooking for more than 100 hours. Bassey took to her Twitter account to announce her achievement, saying, “What do you think about 100 hours?”

The feat was a gruelling task, but the chef persisted. She had initially set a target of 96 hours but pushed herself to break the previous record by cooking for 100 hours straight. Bassey’s achievement has continued to attract commendations from Nigerians, celebrities, and politicians. Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was among those who publicly supported her.

Bassey, who is also a restauranteur, is not new to breaking records. She previously set a record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual in Nigeria, cooking for 366 hours straight. The chef, who owns and runs Hilda Baci Kitchen in Abuja, has gained a reputation for her innovative culinary skills.

Speaking about her latest achievement, Bassey expressed her gratitude to those who supported her. “I want to thank everyone who stood by me during the 100 hours of cooking. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, friends, and fans,” she said.

The 100-hour cooking marathon was not just about breaking a world record for Bassey. She used the opportunity to raise awareness about the need for sustainable food production and consumption. During the marathon, she prepared a variety of dishes using locally sourced ingredients, emphasizing the importance of supporting local farmers and producers.

Bassey’s achievement has also inspired other chefs and food enthusiasts to push their limits. In a statement, Chef Tondon congratulated Bassey and said she was happy to see more women taking on challenges in the culinary world.

Bassey’s latest record-breaking feat is a testament to the growing interest in Nigerian cuisine and the country’s culinary industry. Nigerian cuisine has gained global recognition in recent years, with chefs like Bassey showcasing the diversity and richness of the country’s food culture.

As Bassey continues to bask in the glory of her achievement, she has promised to keep pushing boundaries and exploring new frontiers in the culinary world. “I believe there is still so much to do in the culinary industry, and I am committed to making a difference,” she said.
