The police spokesman in Lagos State, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the attack and said that the police were working to bring the perpetrators to justice. He stated, "The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has directed the DCP State CID, Panti, to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book."
The attack comes amid a surge in criminal activities in Lagos State, with many cases of kidnappings, armed robbery, and cult-related violence reported in recent times. In response, the Lagos State government has vowed to take drastic measures to curb the trend.
The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has promised to equip the police with modern crime-fighting tools and provide adequate support to enhance their capacity to combat crime. He has also urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.
Meanwhile, the police have called on members of the public to assist them with information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits. They assured Lagosians of their readiness to ensure the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
The incident has also prompted renewed calls for the government to take urgent steps to address the issue of land grabbing in the state. Land grabbing has become a major source of conflict and violence in Lagos, with many innocent people losing their lives or property in the process.
The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed a bill criminalizing land grabbing in the state. The bill provides for a 21-year jail term for offenders found guilty of the offence. However, many have criticized the government's response, saying that more needs to be done to address the root causes of the problem.
In the meantime, residents of Ikorodu and its environs have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. The police have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
