Ojerinde alleged that he was arrested and detained by the anti-graft agency without cause, despite having “dedicated 30 years” at JAMB in “uninterrupted service” before he was appointed registrar in 2009. He further claimed that the ICPC never invited him for questioning into a probe before taking him into custody on November 1st 2012. According to the former registrar, his detention breached his constitutionally secured fundamental human rights and undermined his honour and reputation.
The suit also claims that Ojerinde had been “subjected to psychological torture, trauma and pains as a result of constant intimidation” by the staff of ICPC since 2012, with no show cause served on him or defence given concerning an allegation he stole N5bn during tenure as JAMB registrar.
In addition, Ojiernde claims that the commission had injured his right to freedom, liberty and movement on multiple occasions by considering all forms of harassment, including arbitrary stoppage at airports during the Easter holiday this year while travelling out of the country with his family members.
