Just in: Kano LGA collation officer collapses during election duty

The Kura Local Government Area (LGA) collation officer in Kano state, Professor Muhammad Yushau, has collapsed at the entrance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters. He is now on admission at an undisclosed hospital. It is unclear what led to his collapse. Still, his colleague from Garun Malam, Muhammad Shuaibu Abubakar, who came in the exact vehicle with him, will present the results on his behalf. The electoral officer, Maryam Adamu Abdullahi of Kura LGA, will assist Abubakar in the presentation.

All political parties have agreed to this arrangement based on the emergency situation. The Kano governorship election has been keenly contested between the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The NNPP's Abba Bichi Yusuf has a narrow lead over Nasir Gawuna of the APC after collating results from 30 LGAs. The announcement of the results has been suspended due to the sudden collapse of Professor Yushau.
