Buhari congratulates Nigerian professor on $300k prize
President Muhammadu Buhari has commended Professor Saheed Aderinto, a Nigerian historian and professor of History and African and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University, for winning the Dan David Prize.

The prize, the most significant financial reward for excellence in the historical discipline in the world, recognised Aderinto's contributions to the study of history and his works on African history at the cutting edge of diverse literature in the records of sexuality, nonhumans and violence.

President Buhari expressed his hope that recognising Aderinto's achievements would spur the teaching and learning of history among students and scholars in Nigeria and beyond.

The President strongly supports teaching history as a standalone subject in all primary and secondary schools in Nigeria and values the contributions of individuals and organisations in improving the quality of learning in the education sector.

Aderinto's achievement as the first and only Nigerian to win the prestigious prize of $300,000 is a testament to his commitment to a discipline that reminds us of the Igbo proverb that says, "A man who cannot tell where the rain began to beat him cannot know where he dried his body."

The President hailed him for being a worthy ambassador of the country and for his scholarly contributions to history.
