The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has congratulated the Governor-elect, Alex Otti of the Labour Party, on his victory in the governorship election held in the state. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ikpeazu described Otti's victory as well-deserved, adding that he has fought a long battle with staying power and resilience.
He also commended the PDP candidate, Okey Ahiwe, for their doggedness and advised other candidates not to distract the Governor-elect with court cases. He urged everyone to break the trend of subjecting Governors to endless litigation and allow them to concentrate on providing good governance.
Ikpeazu promised to put in place every necessary measure to ensure a seamless transition from his administration to that of Otti. He thanked the people of Abia State for voting peacefully, reminding them that peace remains critical in the quest for sustainable development.
The Governor expressed confidence in Otti's ability to provide good governance to the people of Abia State, calling on him to see his victory as a higher call to service. He wished him God's blessings and guidance in his new role.
The Abia State governorship election was keenly contested by different political parties, with Otti emerging as the winner with a total of 175, 467 votes, while the PDP candidate, Okey Ahiwe, had 88,529 votes. With the conclusion of the election, the Governor-elect is expected to assume office on May 29th, 2023.
