Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has come under fire from Senator Smart Adeyemi, who claims that the redesign of the Naira was done to make life difficult for innocent people.
Because people were going through difficult times with no end in sight, the senator from Kogi West stated that the cashless policy was callous.
Adeyemi claimed during a news conference on Saturday in Abuja that the governor of the central bank was carrying out the directives of some presidential cabals in order to cause the All Progressives Congress, or APC, to lose the election later this month.
He claimed that the cashless strategy was intended to prevent the APC from winning the election because voters were complaining about not having enough cash for their everyday requirements, which was damaging the APC's chances of winning.
Adeyemi pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari for assistance, saying that the Central Bank governor is being cursed by the impoverished people who are struggling.
“I am in support of the need to change the currency, but I am not in support of the way and manner the whole process is being done.
“Many died because they had no cash to buy drugs, and some died because of high blood pressure. The big men have cash in their houses. President Buhari’s seven-day is too long to effect a change,” he said.
Before it’s too late, he said, suffering has become too much to bear. He also noted that, as an elected Senator, people have been asking, “How will they pay money to get money?”
“Artisans are dying on a daily basis,” Adeyemi said.
