Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confiscated the sum of N32.4 million in Lagos. The money, believed to be for vote buying, was intercepted by the anti-graft agency on Thursday, February 24.
According to a statement released by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, the agency's operatives intercepted the cash during a stop and search operation around the Kotangora axis of Agege Motor Road, Mushin, Lagos State.
The statement further revealed that the suspects carrying the cash were arrested and taken into custody, and they are currently being interrogated by the commission. The EFCC also noted that its operatives are on high alert to prevent any act of corruption during the general elections.
The agency has repeatedly warned against vote buying and other forms of electoral malpractice, urging citizens to shun such acts and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. The EFCC has vowed to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that the 2023 general elections are free, fair, and credible.
