In the Kinkinau neighbourhood in the Kaduna South LGA of Kaduna State, three children have perished from burn injuries.
City & Crime discovered that the event took place on Thursday of last week at around 1am when the fire completely destroyed their home.
The victims were all children in a family of five, and they were all burned beyond recognition, according to a neighbour of the victims. They shared a home with their father and two additional kids.
Mohammed Tasiu, the father of the victims, claimed that just before going to bed that night, he stopped four hunters from trying to shoot a cat that was perched on the roof of his home.
He claimed that while he was inside, in bed, he heard a sound on his roof and initially assumed it was the cat coming back. However, he subsequently noticed a weird odour, as if something were burning, and went into the kids' room to investigate but found nothing burning.
He further said, “I then went into the compound to check around only to see fire at the back of the rooms, and before I could rush back to save my family, the children’s room was on fire.
“I heard them (children) crying inside the room for help but I couldn’t save them despite my effort because of the fire. So, I honestly don’t know what actually caused the fire but Allah knows,” adding that the children had been buried according to Islamic rites.
