The Returning Officer, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, announced the results, revealing that Obi garnered 352,904 votes to beat his closest rivals, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 30,044 votes and Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 66,171 votes.
The candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, received a total of 1,536 votes. Obi's victory in Imo State is a major boost to his campaign and could impact the overall outcome of the presidential election.
