The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the 2023 Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu House of Representatives election inconclusive due to the difference in the margin of winners and the cancellation of results in two polling units of the federal Constituency. The returning officer, Dr. Adams Baba, who declared the result inconclusive in Kabba on Sunday, stated that the difference in the results between the winner, Arch Salman Idris of African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kolawole Matthew, was not up to the number of registered voters in the cancelled polling units.
According to Baba, "The ADC candidate polled 13867 while the APC polled 13605 leaving just 262 votes difference whereas the number of PVC collected in the cancelled polling units of Iya in Otu ward in Kabba/Bunu LGA (485) and Open Space polling unit in Egbeda ward of Ijumu LGA (100) is more than the difference." However, the returning officer failed to mention when the rerun election will be conducted in the affected polling units.
The Speaker of the Kogi State Assembly, Kolawole Matthew, is the candidate of the APC. The number of accredited voters in the poll was 41,246; APC polled 13,605; ADC 13867; PDP 10967, while the rest of the votes were between SDP, NNPP, and others.
This inconclusive election means that there will be a rerun in the affected polling units to determine the winner of the House of Representatives seat for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency. The voters in the affected areas will have to return to the polls to cast their votes, and the winner will be announced after the results have been collated.
