According to Prof. Akoria Obehi, the Edo State Commissioner for Health, 40 people, including 26 adults and 14 children, who have been diagnosed with Lassa fever are still being treated at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH).
The patients are receiving medical attention at the moment and are responding to the treatment, according to Prof. Akoria, who revealed this to journalists in Benin City.
She added that 115 confirmed cases and 13 disease-related deaths have been reported for the state as a whole. The confirmed cases are spread out among the 11 local government councils in the state.
The Commissioner stated that the government is stepping up efforts to contain the illness across all of Edo communities and he urged citizens to support those efforts by adhering to all established protocols to prevent the illness from spreading.
She also urged them to get in touch with the disease surveillance or notification officers in their local governments if they had come into contact with someone who had been diagnosed with Lassa fever or if they were experiencing any other priority disease symptoms or suspected Lassa fever.
