Dapo Abiodun cautions Nigerians against beating drums of war

Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, has issued a call to action to Nigerians urging them to abstain from actions that can ignite a civil war.

"Stop pounding drums of war," said Abiodun during a special church service held in honour of the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day commemoration. The service was held in Ake, Abeokuta, in the Cathedral Church of St. Peter.

The governor warned Nigerians, known for their propensity to beat the drum of war, to avoid acting in this way as the general elections drew nearer.

His statements were as follows: “Let me call on all of us; we must do everything to ensure that we avoid actions capable of provoking one another, activities capable of leading us to war or any other national conflict.

“For people constantly beating the drum of war, let us ensure that particularly, as we prepare for the 2023 general elections, we do not do anything to overheat the polity.”

The governor, who previously called on young people around the country to avoid criminal behaviour, has asked adults to keep their children from being recruited as thugs in the next midterm elections.

He made the following statement: “We must ensure that we participate in this electoral process, we’ve been advised that the Independent National Electoral Commission has now made the Permanent Voters’ Card, PVCs, available at different wards, we enjoin you to please go and collect your PVCs, because, without your PVCs, you will not be able to exercise your franchise.”
