Chimaroke Nnamani reacts to PDP suspension

Chimaroke Nnamani, an Enugu senator, expressed surprise and disbelief following his expulsion from the PDP (PDP).

He made this declaration on Saturday morning after the PDP had previously claimed that he had been suspended for "anti-party activities" the previous evening.

Nnamani and seven other members have been instantly suspended from Ekiti State, according to Prime 9ja Online.

The decision was taken, according to the PDP's National Working Committee (NWC), "after a very extensive review and consideration of the party's affairs in the country."

The lawmaker said that the suspension was unreasonable because his right to a fair trial was violated.

He asserted that he was unaware of the petition filed against him or the justifications given by the PDP NWC for its decision to expel him from the party.

“I was also not invited to any meeting, proceeding, or hearing of the NWC of the party where my supposed offence(s) was/were discussed,” he added.

“I was, therefore, not afforded the opportunity to make representations on my behalf at any meeting where the proposal and decision to suspend me from the party was made.

“My right to fair hearing was consequently violated against the clear provisions of the constitution of the party, especially in disciplinary proceedings. More importantly, the superior constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.”

On the other hand, Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State, has assured his constituents that his political career is robust and secure.

He thanked his voters and backers for their faith in him and vowed to see the campaign through to what he hoped would be a successful end.

Additionally, he promised to maintain the necessary leadership to ensure the people receive the benefits of democracy.

Having openly begun campaigning for the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, the senator for Enugu East, was suspended after receiving criticism from PDP sympathisers.

Initially, he was selected to serve as a member of the APC presidential campaign council; however, this decision was later reversed. Never once did anything to suggest they supported or endorsed Atiku.

However, per the Electoral Act, his suspension will not affect his ability to run for reelection to the Senate.
