Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed has been appointed as the director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari.
Christy Uba, the acting DG of the NYSC for the past three months, will be replaced by Ahmed on Monday.
After Brig. Gen. Mohammed Fadah was fired from NYSC due to his inefficiency and subpar performance in office, and Uba took over the organization's operations.
In the position of overseer, she had replaced the most senior director in the corps' leadership while waiting for Mr President to name a substantive Director General.
Since the corps' founding nearly 50 years ago, she is the organization's first female leader.
