Sanwo-olu Harks Back As Bishop Olumakaiye Is Buried In Ondo

 Most Rev. Humphrey Olumakaiye, late Archbishop of Lagos Province, Anglican Communion, and Bishop of Lagos Diocese, was buried on Thursday in his hometown of Idanre, Ondo State.

Olumakaiye died on Monday, October 31, after a brief illness. He was the first bishop of Osun North East before being transferred to the Diocese of Lagos. He was 53 years old.

Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor, who attended the funeral service at St Paul's Anglican Church in Idanre, described the deceased as a servant of God who lived an exemplary and impactful life in a short time.

The service was presided over by the Most Rev. Dr Henry Ndukuba, Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), and the Archbishop of Ondo Province and Diocesan Bishop of Akure, the Most Rev. Dr Simeon Borokini, was also attended by Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; many Anglican bishops and priests; clerics from other Christian denominations; traditional rulers; as well as family and friends of the deceased.

Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu said, “The Most Rev. Dr Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye was our brother, friend, and bishop; a man that truly loved God, a man that served God with everything that he had, a man that was indeed a great worshipper and an evangelist of our time

The loss is not for Idanre town; the loss is not for Lagos State, the loss is for the entire Anglican Communion in Nigeria. We cannot begin to ask or question God Almighty, who knows best, given the fact that he was a child of God. At the right time, God Almighty called him to join Him.

“We are pleased that he is a man who has touched many lives, a man who has created in a very short time a large shoe that we hope people will be able to fit into.”

The governor, who was at the cemetery when the late cleric was interred, urged his widow, Prof. Motunrayo, and her son, Richard, to take the death of the late bishop in good faith.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Rt. Rev. Dapo Asaju appreciated Sanwo-Olu for his support of the ministerial assignment of the late Olumakaiye.

Asaju also appreciated the support of the governor’s wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and others for the Olumakaiye family and prayed for a good replacement for Olumakaiye, whom he described as a committed child of God and the first archbishop from Idanre town.
