Imo state's Department of State Security Service revealed on Wednesday that its agents had captured the masterminds of persistent attacks.
Director of the Department in the state Wilcox Idaminabo reaffirmed the commitment of the secret police and other security agencies to ensure the state's continued stability while speaking at a stakeholder meeting in Owerri, the state capital, with the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Sylvia Agu.
He said that the agency significantly improved the state's struggle against insecurity.
Idaminabo announced the capture of the perpetrators of the recent attack on the INEC headquarters in Owerri and other government structures.
According to the DSS director, his organisation removed the bandits' basecamp from Orsu.
He asserts that the SSS's ongoing patrols resulted in the capture of Mike Ahize, the state's Orsu Local Government Area's chief of the criminal group.
He said the bandits moved to a new position along the Okigwe route, the Aku/Ihube axis. They continued their attacks after coming under heavy artillery fire at their camp in Orsu.
But the seizure of another commander, Ejima, on Tuesday night delighted Ibidaminabo.
He declared, “We have continued to comb their camps and cells at Orsu, Njaba, Orlu, and Okigwe, and our onslaught, especially at Njaba, left to the arrest of one Ejima who has been threatening to burn down the state. I am happy to announce that we apprehended him just last night (Tuesday), and he’s now in our custody.
“We also recovered many arms, ammunition and charms from him.”
He pleaded with locals to help law enforcement capture the criminals and bring them to justice.
