Following a fire outbreak in Elekahia, a densely populated area in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday morning, over 200 people were displaced, with goods and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
Our correspondent on the scene learned that the fire, which began around 8:30 a.m., was started by a kerosene explosion.
Some of the affected residents had traveled to attend the festivities, while others were at work when the fire broke out.
According to John Nnemeka, a Federal Fire Service official, they arrived early but were unable to access the scene due to the nature of the houses.
