Premier League club Chelsea have announced the signing of Ivorian youngster David Datro Fofana on a permanent basis from Molde.
Following a €12 million transfer fee agreement between The Blues and the Norwegian club, the 20-year-old completed his medical in London on Tuesday.
"Chelsea FC has reached a pre-contract agreement with Molde FK for the transfer of David Datro Fofana. The Blues will sign the 20-year-old striker on January 1, 2023. "We welcome David to the club," the club said in a statement on Wednesday.
Fofana finished the season as the second highest scorer in Norway's top flight league, Eliteserien, with 15 goals in 24 league appearances.
His acquisition became essential for Chelsea after the club’s striker Armando Broja was ruled out of the season following a knee injury in mid-season friendly match against Aston Villa.
Broja underwent a successful operation on his knee last week Wednesday as the 21-year-old prepares to start rehabilitation.
