Following Russian missile attacks on the nation's energy infrastructure, Ukrainians in Kiev and six other locations experienced deliberate power outages on Tuesday.
The energy company Ukrenerho said in Kiev that on Tuesday, consumers' electricity would be turned off in phases.
As well as Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava, the regions of Chernihiv, Cherkassy, and Zhytomyr are also impacted.
The electrical grid will be shut down in order to avoid overloading, but experts will also have a chance to repair and restart any plants destroyed by missile or drone attacks.
People in Ukraine have already been subject to limitations for a number of weeks.
People have been asked to curtail their electricity use, especially during peak hours. Washing machines and heaters should only run at night, if possible.
Vital energy infrastructure has been one of the main targets of the Russian military since it invaded Ukraine more than eight months ago.
Kiev argues that the power cuts are aimed at driving Ukrainians to flee to the European Union in order to destabilise it.
