| Tejuosho market on fire |
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the fire that destroyed the Tejuosho Market on Tuesday has made over 1,200 fabric artists without work.
This was stated by Mustapha Ahmed, the director-general of NEMA, in a post-disaster loss and needs assessment report released on Wednesday in Lagos.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the South-West NEMA's zone coordinator, acted as Mr. Ahmed's representative.
He verified that the mid-afternoon fire disaster that struck the popular market resulted in the loss of over 1,600 industrial, crying, and straight sewing machines.
According to Mr. Ahmed, the fire, whose origin is unknown, is thought to have been started by someone attempting to fill up a functioning generator that caught fire along the line.
While consoling the traders, the director-general urged them not to see the situation as a temporary setback but as a challenge that would bring greater success.
The assessment revealed that about 150 lock-up shops with at least eight registered traders occupied each shop.
