Kenya began an expedited programme on Monday with the goal of giving young people in Kenya at least one million chances for employment and entrepreneurship.
For the following five years, the private sector will host the entrepreneurship programme on a yearly basis.
Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua, the vice president of Kenya, stated that the goal of the Kenya Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Program project was to maximise the potential of small and medium-sized businesses.
The program, according to him, was designed to support services that enabled them to expand and provide jobs for young people.
According to Mr. Gachagua, the programme would also use technology and digital transformation to help the firms grow.
He revealed that youth unemployment in Kenya was estimated at 38.9 per cent, with an estimated one million young people getting into the labour market every year from academic institutions.
Flora Mutahi, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance chairwoman, said the initiative was expected to transform the youth labour market by contributing relevant evidence and data to addressing policy bottlenecks impeding accelerated job creation in the private sector.
Mutahi added that the target beneficiaries were youth in low-resource settings.
