Wednesday, local media reported that Israel Adesanya had been taken into custody in New York.
Soon after landing at John F. Kennedy Airport, the UFC fighter was arrested by airport security and police. He allegedly tried to get through security when he was discovered in possession of a metal knuckle.
According to an official, Mr Adesanya could spend up to a year in prison if found guilty of using brass knuckles, which are prohibited in the US.
According to several local media reports, the incident happened at around 1:57 p.m. local time as Mr Adesanya was going through security at a terminal that American Airlines uses.
It was unclear whether Mr Adesanya would be held in custody until his initial court appearance, which has not yet been scheduled, or if an appearance ticket would be issued.
It was unclear where Mr Adesanya was travelling to when the incident occurred, although the boxing champion of Nigerian origin lives in New Zealand.
