Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, was shot at while driving in a convoy during a protest march, resulting in gunshot wounds to his legs.
Mr. Khan organised a protest march in Islamabad on Thursday to call for immediate elections. According to Sky News, his followers are referring to it as an assassination attempt.
A Sky News producer was reportedly present at the incident and standing near to Mr. Khan and the wounded lawmaker when he was shot, according to Sky's Cordelia Lynch.
After being ousted from power in April, Mr. Khan has been advocating for new elections. His six-day protest march from Lahore to Islamabad was intended to demand that the nation have early elections.
In October, Pakistan’s election commission (ECP) found Mr Khan guilty of “corrupt practices” and disqualified him from being a member of parliament.
The case against Mr Khan was filed in August by a member of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), accusing the former prime minister of buying gifts given by foreign dignitaries from the state gift depository but did not disclose the assets in declarations submitted to the commission.
The case filed said Mr Khan had received a total of 58 boxes containing various items during his time in office.
Mr Khan challenged the verdict in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which ruled that Mr Khan had not been barred from contesting in future elections and was eligible to compete in the Kurram district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on October 30.
