The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo reports that during the month of October, it detained no fewer than 48 people for allegedly trafficking illegal drugs.
This was said in a statement made on Monday in Abuja by Buba Wakawa, the state's NDLEA commander.
The commander added that three vehicles and one motorcycle were seized in addition to 10 suspected cannabis crops totalling 8.23 hectares being destroyed.
But according to Mr Wakawa, the command managed to achieve six convictions in a single month.
He said that 39 men and 9 women were detained and that 7,379.59 kilogrammes of drugs were seized.
He named the substances cannabis Sativa, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and syrup with a codeine base.
Mr Wakawa appreciated the state’s people for their unflinching support to the command and appealed for more intelligence on the activities of drug merchants.
“I believe that together we will cripple their evil trade so that we can jointly make Edo drug-free.
“The task was given to us by our chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, to rid the nation of drug abuse and trafficking, is a mandate that must be achieved,” Mr Wakawa added.
