On Wednesday, the Kebbi police command in Birnin Kebbi hosted a symbolic event when the commissioner of police, CP Ahmed Magaji Kontagora, gave checks totalling more than N46 million to 21 families of police officers who had died while serving the command and Nigeria.
According to Magaji, they were handed group personal accident and group life insurance checks.
Usman Baba Alkali, the IGP, has reportedly launched a number of assistance programmes for both active and deceased police officers, according to him. He claimed that the purpose of the gathering was to raise policemen's spirits and reassure them that the police will stand by them even after they pass away.
The state police chief said that, though it’s sad it is a continuous thing, police will continue to give welfare to the serving and deceased officers who died in the line of duty.
One of the beneficiaries Samuel Doro Jabaka who lost his brother thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the state police commissioner Ahmed Magaji for the kind gesture, he said they never expected the death of their brother but since it is the will of God they have accepted it.
