According to their management, the members of the K-pop group BTS must complete their mandatory military service in South Korea.
South Korea mandates between 18 and 21 months of military duty for all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28.
Athletes, classical and traditional musicians, and dancers who have taken home top honours in tournaments that increase the stature of the nation, however, are excluded from this rule.
A law allowing K-pop celebrities like BTS to avoid performing in national service until they are 30 was passed by the South Korean government in 2020.
The first to serve in the military will be Jin, the group's oldest member at 29 years old.
“All other members will also serve mandatory military duty according to their plans,” their management group HYBE said.
