According to a statement dated October 17, 2022, and signed by Mrs Olubukola O. Salami, Permanent Secretary of the Commission, the termination of the appointments marked the conclusion of an investigation into allegations of misconduct made against the pair in accordance with the disciplinary process and the need to preserve the independence of the judiciary.
In her words: “The Commission hereby informs members of the public that the appointments of Magistrate Oluwatoyin Gwendolyn Oghre and Magistrate Humenu Olajuwon Amos have been terminated as members of the Lagos State Judiciary with effect from Tuesday, 11th October, 2022 and Wednesday, 12th October, 2022, respectfully for acts of misconduct”.
Salami emphasised that those tasked with handling case adjudication must be upstanding and prepared to demonstrate and carry out their duties in a manner that is consistent with their statutory obligations. Salami maintained that the Lagos State Judicial Service Commission will continue to uphold the sanctity of the judiciary based on honesty, dedication, and integrity in accordance with its statutory duties.
The impacted employees should not be dealt with in any official capacity as magistrates or officers of the Lagos State Judiciary, the Permanent Secretary advised the general public.
