Oluwadamilola Aworinde, 20, was charged by the police on Thursday in Ibadan, Oyo State, with assaulting a police officer.
He was charged with assault and engaging in behaviour that was likely to disturb the peace when he appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates' Court.
However, the defendant, whose address was withheld, entered a not guilty plea.
The defendant committed the offences on October 19, 2022 at 11:30 am in Idi-Odo, Felele, Ibadan, according to the prosecution, Ibrahim Toyin, who testified in court.
Olaogun Tajudden, a police officer, was allegedly screamed at and humiliated by Aworinde when the officer was carrying out his official duties in a public area.
He alleged that the defendant also assaulted Tajudden by pushing, punching and beating him.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 356 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, O. A. Enilolobo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.
Enilolobo adjourned the case until December 21, 2022 for hearing.
