The Obio Akpor Local Government Area of the state's Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has discovered a structure that was being used as a dump site for storing illegally processed petroleum products.
The structure is located on the Ozuoba axis at Egbelu, off Cornerstone Junction. It has an underground tank with an undetermined number of litres of illegally refined diesel, a plastic tank with roughly 3,500 litres of diesel, two waste disposal trucks with built-in tanks, and a pumping equipment.
The NSCDC's Rivers State Commandant, Michael Ogar, said the building is now under seal and manned by personnel while the Command continues to hunt down the offenders until they are apprehended and brought to justice. On Monday, Ogar led the Anti-Vandal Unit of the Command and journalists to the building.
The Command also arrested 19 suspects at different locations in the state on account of their involvement in oil theft and illegal dealings in petroleum products.
